Defense Ministry warns about Mobile based Cash Transfer Scam

Sri Lankan Defense Ministry has urged society to be aware of a current happening scam using mobile-based cash transfers and ransom by threatening individuals.

An organized group is doing this by urging people to pay money to take their names out from some on-going criminal investigations, stated the ministry.

This situation was brought to the attention of Defence Secretary Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne by the Police. Further, Mr. Gunaratne has also instructed the Police to investigate such scams. Although The Defence Secretary said that the Ministry would take stern legal action against those who have links to the scam.
