Trump threatens China; "There should be consequences"

US President Donald Trump warned China today at the daily White House briefing, stating that China should face consequences if they were “knowingly responsible” for the COVID-19 outbreak.

He said, “It could have been stopped in China before it started and it wasn’t, and the whole world is suffering because of it,”

Pres. Trump also said,
If it was a mistake, a mistake is a mistake. But if they were knowingly responsible, yeah, I mean, then sure there should be consequences,

This seems like a direct threat and an accusation towards Beijing as it might lighten up a war of words between two of the world's largest economies. However, Pres. Trump did not clearly state what actions the US might take.

Trump also again cast doubt on China's death toll, which was revised up on Friday. China said 1300 people who died of the Coronavirus in Wuhan were not counted, but dismissed allegations of a cover-up.
